The ‘Twilight’ Hype

2008 December 10

A teenage girl moves in with her dad in the small town of Forks, Washington to only discover that Vampires exist, and she is head-smack-dab in Love with one of them, Mr. Edward Cullen.
I mean, come on, what’s not to like here. A romantic action filled babble about vampires.

I have to admit, the film does not bring justice to the book, but at all.

However, surely exciting this incredible fiction story written by Stephanie Meyer has moved many readers, thus their excitement stems from their passion and personal imagination as book fans. The screen just provides the visuals, and many were so enthralled with the exhibition, they left out the cinematics to the harsh critics.

And only those who have read the book, I feel, would find the film satisfying to a degree. However, for the rest of you, you are the harsh critic. Without the background pages one could feel left out or suddenly stuck with two hours of a sap and an absolute confusion.

However, the logistics follow that, this film, TWILIGHT, directed by Catherine Hardwicke (Nativity Story, Lords of Dogtown) had a very low budget for creating half of the population’s imagination on the big screen. Only 48 days of production and a staff of late teens and young twenty year olds in the rainy small town of Forks, this film successfully topped off at the box office so far with a total gross of $ 138.4mil. So given all that, the attempt for the film was successful, and I could only hope that the sequel be better, just because “low budgeting” would not be an issue anymore.

Now for the young romancers Robert Pattinson(Edward) and Kristen Stewart(Bella Swan) the hype is up. It is like the thrilling “Notebook”(2004) once again. Although, Rachel McAdams and Ryan Gosling might have found their happily ever after. But these two youngsters are just air for the media, and if all the rumors are true, we can only hope their passion will show in the sequel “New Moon”.

Nothing has been revealed yet, regarding the creation of sequels, however, with all of the publicity this film has gotten so far, no doubt, the producers are forming their entourage as well as booking a trip back to Forks, Washington.

If you haven’t seen it, find out for yourself what the Hype is all about … After you read the book!!
