Suprise Win of the Golden Globes
Golden Globe Awards 2009 celebrated their 66th anniversary held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel Sunday, Jan. 11th.
Amongst the diversity of surprises, I would say, movie choices and awards this year, one came to mind.
Mickey Rourke wins best actor for a role in his latest production “The Wrestler”
Now, why does this come as such surprise to us film lovers?
Before I divulge in quite possibly the controversial win of Mickey Rourke, lets meet Rourke in his early ages.
In brief, Rourke’s full name is Phillip Andre Rourke Jr. He was born September of 1952. His passion for boxing seemed to have been stronger than acting in his teenage years, thus he became a professional boxer in 1991. Although, that career has shortly reached its end, Rourke has reacquainted his two passions together in his latest development, “The Wrestler” directed by Daren Aronofsky.
For a man who appears to be notorious with his acting career, he has rolled up his sleeves for year 2010.
A couple of sequels are in the progress, amongst others, such as “Sin City 2″ and “Iron Man 2″
After his boxing career in 1990’s, he attempted to return to the screen, yet his luck did not turn out as well as 2000’s.
His strong impact took effect in 2005 with “Sin City”
What’s so surprising then?
I have a few theories;
The surprise of this win first starts off with Rourke’s competition of nominees. DiCaprio, Langella, Penn and Pitt. I almost feel as though this year our society feels certain righteousness to push away such divine actors. Nothing personal to Mr. Rourke, we just fancy the pretty gents.
Hey, who knows maybe someone ought to make a movie about this controversy of surprises in award winning titles?
So what’s so bad about Rourke winning best actor? I mean, he was as good as the film allowed him to be. And the film was quite enjoyable;I am not even a fan of boxing.
Although, he’s clearly not as attractive as some might think Brad or Leo are; But is that a trigger for a best actor-award win?
Rourke has always been the mystery man. As to his precarious lifestyle, like us all, he has battled a few of his own demons, such as the curse of marriage. The second time around, in 1994 he was arrested of spousal abuse. No wonder he has not remarried since!
Well true, he rarely shows in tabloids, and has the reckless reputation, but he deserves this Golden Globe as well.
Congrats to you Mickey Rourke.
