From the Director that brought you the “40 Year Old Virgin” here comes another hilariously funny comedy about the consequences from a one night stand between two people whose personalities don’t mesh. Ben Stone (Seth Rogen) is a man in his mid 20ies who enjoys living his life without responsibilities, much like a high school freshman. However, his faith is about to change when he meets Allison Scott (Katherine Heigl), a beautiful, successful, career oriented woman, who, after being given a promotion sets off to celebrate on a night of drinking. Allison’s whole world is altered when she decides to keep a baby from a fleeting one night stand. It is your typical romantic comedy, with classic jokes relating to real life events. It is America, in a nutshell. It is funny, but not funny enough to take up two hours of our lives.
Knocked Up is a film whose plot can be easily deciphered through its preview. With that said, why bother with the details of an already told story?
As Rolling Stones calls it “the most hilarious film this year”, I am going to go ahead and disagree. For the past five years or more, most comedies seem to have one thing in common: key funny moments that are more likely to be presented in the preview for the film. Although, I do agree, having a great preview is a key to film success. People today present a generation that loves to be sold to. We ought to pay and be tricked! Would you be terribly interested in a film if the preview did not sweep you off your feet? The point here is that there is a happy medium between an enticing preview and one that kills the plot. See it for yourselves. And I urge you to change my mind!
