Finally, the weekend of Iron Man 2 has arrived. The opening night is this Friday, the 7th of May.
Personal suggestion: Pre-order your tickets online, because I have a feeling it will be a bloodbath at the box office ALL WEEK LONG!

Robert Downey Jr returns as Mr. Tony Stark, in what might be a better yet escapade on the big screen.

The excellent additions to this sequel, Mickey Rourke (academy award nominee for “The Wrestler” ) and the beautiful miss Scarlett Johansson, are going to unmistakeably win the seat of top notch villains.

And for the rest… I suppose we wait, and see…

Happy New Year!

These past couple of weekends have definitely raised the bar and expectations for the upcoming films in 2010.

- Simply Avatar itself has shown to be a record breaker at the box office for just the past two holiday weekends reaching just above $1 Billion dollars worldwide, New Years weekend being the biggest grossing ever seen, tightly followed by Sherlock Holmes.
And here is what to expect in 2010

- On the TV show front, Dexter left us in complete astonishment at the loss of Rita- Julie Benz, who’s career from a caring wife of the Serial Killer is moving into a role of a lone stripper landing onto Wisteria Lane, as Debbie, a new addition to our Desperate Housewives.

- As for 2010 film repertoire, these selections coming out will simply blow your mind. And here is to a whole new technology-driven Hollywood.
Martin Scorcese takes on the psychological thriller, novel written by Brad Fischer, “Shudder Island” to a whole new level of absolute craze, starring Leonardo Di Caprio and Ben Kingsley, releasing mid February.
And on the less talked about side of films, Christopher Nolan’s (Batman Series, Memento, The Prestige) “Inception” expected to be released in July is a whole other whirlpool of excitement. Inception is a story about the architecture of one’s mind.

- March 2nd is the opening of Tim Burton’s remake of ALice in Wonderland, starring Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter. With more of a serious tonality of films comes Louis Leterrier’s version of “Clash of the Titans, expected toward the end of March..

-For all the ladies out there, the sequel of Sex in the City is expected to open mid May.
While on the topic of sequels Harry Potter’s last book has been segmented in 2 parts, thus ” Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 will reach theaters early November.

As well as the Twilight Saga series, Stephanie Mayer’s third book, Eclipse is in production as we speak, expected to release late November.
As for the hearthrob vampire Edward Cullen/ actor Robert Pattinson, rumors have it he is not REALLY a vampire… indeed his new film “Remember me ” starring Pierce Brosnan, Chris Cooper and Emilie de Ravin, is a story about a misguided adolescent living an ordinary life as a real boy. Directed by Allen Coulter, (Hollywoodland, Six feet Under, The Sopranos.), Remember Me is a romantic drama revolving around a young couple and their daily misfortunes that lead them to the true meaning of love.

-As for the more serious side of Raw films, Ridley Scott’s (Blade Runner) Robin Hood reenactment, is taking a whole new turn of Gladiator type films, starring Russell Crowe, Mark Strong and Kate Blanchet, this primal warrior action film might possibly create a whole new box office record in late May.
- While on the theme of raw warrior-like films, Prince of Persia, The Sands of Time, is the remarkable works and recreation of a video game set, of Mike Newell(Pushing Tin, Donnie Brasco). Starring Jake Gyllenhaal, which I might add, is looking damn fine, has done an incredible job bouncing off the never forgettable BrokeBack Mountain, as yet again an alpha, macho male. Jake, who has managed to completely transform his body and beef up to fit his role as Prince Dastan in Prince of Persia, has revealed his range of talents. Prince of Persia, is also expected to reach theaters late May, has been in production since 2008, mostly filming in Morocco, North Africa, with close to $150 million budget.
Starring Ben Kingsley and Alfred Molina, Prince of Persia is expected to hit another box office breakthrough.

I have to say, I have never seen Manhattan so udderly empty and bare of humans as it was on Christmas Day!
After standing in line at the theaters for 45minutes to purchase movie tickets for Avatar, I have realized where most of New Yorkers were hiding, hence, all show-times were sold out and I was left to settle with the less liked film choices.
Avatar, which came out December 18th, seems to have blown the box office off the roof grossing closely to $73million on approximately 7000 screens in the opening week, which is the highest rating seen for a movie that is neither a remake, a sequel, nor a direct adaptation.
Avatar is second highest grossing December film right after “I am Legend” in 2007, with $77.2million.
Written and directed by James Cameron, Avatar is a fantastical tale about a paraplegic marine dispatched on a unique mission to planet Pandora, who is torn between obeying orders and protecting the world he feels is his home.

Available in IMAX and 3D presentation, Avatar set a new 3D record of $52 million, showing on 3129 3D screens. Previously climbed 3D films followed “Up” with $35.4 and Monsters vs Aliens with $32.7.

For a fantasy/science fiction, action/adventure film that is not based on pre-established material, Avatar’s ratings are immaculate, as well having audiences emotionally vested into computer generated characters in a serious reality based setting, no wonder this film devoured the office box this week.
Avatar’s popularity across the ocean reached to $159.72 million from 106 territories, excluding markets such as Japan China and Italy, of which 25 percent of screenings was 3D, accounting for over 50percent of the gross total.

With 9 nominations for Golden Globe and more to come, Avatar is slowly climbing a high ladder of Cameron’s famously watched classics such was Titanic in 1997.

It is safe to say James Cameron’s comeback after dozen years has proven the fact that, indeed he is “King of the world”.
Cameron had written the storyline for Avatar a few years back, however realized that the technology to create his film did not exist yet, thus finally after perfecting a screenplay for all these years he is able to present every aspect of the actor’s performance in the final development of the CG character, as it is live on screen. Nothing is unimportant in Avatar, every aspect of the screen tells a story, being that Avatar has surely been in production for the past 4 years, reaching this high is no surprise for Cameron, rather a solid pat on the back for mustering such an intense sci-fi adventure.

Such solid feature brings to mind the question, “has James Cameron gone ahead of himself by setting his mark too high?”
I guess we are left to find out- hopefully not as long as another 12 years

As we are nearing the end of 2009, simply the saddest year in the loss of celebrities, I am going to hurry up and add Brittany Murphy to the dead bunch.
Thirty two year old actress and singer was rushed into Cedars Sinai Medical Center, Sunday morning, after she was found collapsed in her Hollywood Hills home. Firefighters, who responded to the call around 8 am, attempted to revive her on the way to the Hospital, unsuccessfully thus she was pronounced dead a couple of hours later. It is save to say her collapse was due to a cardiac arrest, however the true cause of this detrimental event is yet to be discovered.

The Los Angeles County Coroner’s office released the autopsy findings on Monday afternoon. The star’s cause of passing has reportedly been “deferred” pending other tests.
The LA County Coroner is now said to be awaiting a toxicology report and studies of the deceased’s organs, tissues and brain.

-Los Angeles Times

Speculations suggest the cause of her death has to do with a drug usage. Authorities have reported, that she has been taking prescription drugs due to a medical condition, however, whether this may caused her death, we will know once the toxicology reports are released.
Murphy’s final public appearance was said to be a fashion event in Los Angeles December 3rd, where she appeared upbeat and lively.

Born in Atlanta, Georgia November 10th,1977, Brittany Murphy moved to Burbank, California at age 13 with her mother, Sharon Murphy, to pursue her acting career.
Her first big break was a supporting role in the film “Clueless”, 1995, starring Alicia Silverstone and Paul Rudd. Furthermore, Brittany Murphy has appeared in “8 mile” as well as “Girl Interrupted”, “Spun”, “Just Married” starring Ashton Kutcher, also provided the voice for Gloria the penguin in the 2006 film animation “Happy Feet”, following many other projects.

Brittany Murphy has kept herself busy in the last few months , with 3 films expected to come out in early 2010, and 2 are currently in pre-production.

Apparently I live under a rock since, midst my net browsing I came up on some dramatic news I should have been posting weeks ago. Alas, my slacking, I’ve arranged to indulge you in yet another version of the dramatic outbreaks in the Transformer-land.

Dumbfounded at reading about this call out, I decided to further explore Megan Fox and her attempts at success in the film industry.

Who is Megan Fox? And why does she think she has the right to publicly criticize and insult the man that practically created her?

According to the letter written and exposed by set crew members;

Michael found this shy, inexperienced girl, plucked her out of total obscurity thus giving her the biggest shot of any young actresses’ life. He told everyone around to just trust him on his choice. He granted her the starring role in Transformers, a franchise that forever changed her life; she became one of the most googled and oogled women on earth. She was famous! She was the next Angelina Jolie, Hooray! Wait a minute, two of us worked with Angelina- second thought-she’s no Angelina. You see, Angelina is a professional.

Megan Fox born May of 1986, began her acting career in 2001. At first she guest starred a few TV shows , such as ‘Two and a Half Men’ and ‘What I Like About You’.
Her big break and recognition prompted the role of Micaela Banes in Transformers- the sexy hot desirable, perfect girlfriend in the mind of Sam Witwicky; a role played by Shia LeBeouf.

It is easy to steer away from personality when you are in the spot light. However it is also important to keep up with your fans and employers on a professional level, which Ms Fox, clearly lost upon this dramatic outburst.

In an interview recently Fox gave herself the title of trailer trash by publicly bashing on Michael Bay.

He’s like Napoleon and he wants to create this insane, infamous mad-man reputation. He wants to be like Hitler on his sets, and he is. So he’s a nightmare to work for but when you get him away from set, and he’s not in director mode, I kind of really enjoy his personality because he’s so awkward, so hopelessly awkward. He has no social skills at all. And it’s endearing to watch him.

In Bay’s defense the letter posted by a couple of set crew members explains this woman’s “ungrateful and classless attitude”.

Megan has the press fooled. When we read those magazines we wish we worked with that woman. Megan knows how to work her smile for the press. Those writers should try being on set for two movies, sadly she never smiles. The cast, crew and director make Transformers a really fun energetic set/ We’ve traveled around the world together, so we have never understood why Megan was always such- the grump of the set?

Michael Bay, steering away from this public quarrel, responds on his site:

I don’t condone the crew letter to Megan. And I don’t condone Megan’s outlandish quotes. But her crazy quips are part of her crazy charm. The fact of the matter I still love working with her, and I know we still get along. I even expect more crazy quotes from her on Transformers 3.

-Side note: Transformers 3 is expected to be out as early as 2011, and surprisingly we will be seeing Megan Fox in it, after all -

In the aftermath of such dramatic outcome of thoughtless responses, Megan Fox has recently confessed to Rolling Stones magazine about her awful temper, and that in the past she has often harmed herself, furthermore, she admits threatening to murder her boyfriend Brian Austin Green in fits of anger.

Such negative expression of character for Megan might simply imply an attempt to take her away from her star shining light. After all maybe she doesn’t want to be the Hottest Hollywood star, but rather drama filled queen.

Besides, with this outburst, Fox is not doing a great job promoting her new film “Jennifer’s Body” directed by Karyn Kusama (The L Word) and written by recent Oscar winner Diablo Cody (Juno). Plot line steers toward a cheesy horror flick; opened this Friday the 18th of September.

Alas, Megan Fox, Stop drenching your fame and glory in gasoline! Next time the match lit might affect you more than you think.

Cosmopolitans, high heels and sheer, the ladies are back in town filming this Fall.
The hype has already been started with the casting calls of extras that crazed New York women in a frenzy.

Director Michael Patrick King the man in charge of the City Gals for over 80 Tv episodes and the first Film in 2008 is now back on his game recapping another feature of 1998 TV series, “Sex and the City 2″

Lets hope this No. 2 will find a way to redeem itself from the first feature- which I personally thought of as a flook. Although there isn’t much to expect when it comes to a feature film based off of a TV series - plot line that repeats itself.

The film’s expected premiere date is May 28th of 2010. However since the film is still in pre-production this date is a subject to change.

Beginning September, New Yorkers keep your eyes open for that 5ft 3” fancy gal, parading Manhattan’s tree lined streets in her high Manolo Blanics

Born in February of 1950, John Hughes, died while walking in Manhattan from an instant heart attack August 6th 2009. He was 59 years old. Known by his craft in the film-industry, Hughes was an American film director, writer and producer.
He became what we remember of him today as the hit writer/director of the 1980’s with classics such as “Breakfast Club” “Sixteen Candles”, “Pretty in Pink” “Home Alone 1&2″, “Planes, Trains and Automobiles” “Ferris Bueller’s Day off”, “National Lampoons Vacation” and many more.

Hughes dropped out of the University of Arizona in 1970 to begin his career as an advertising copywriter in Chicago.
His first attempt at comedy writings was selling jokes to well- established performers such as Rodney Dangerfield and Joan Rivers.
This landed him a spot for the National Lampoons Magazine from where his first credited screenplay developed, called Class Reunion, that was picked up and directed by Michael Miller. The film became a huge flop at the box office which pushed Hughes to what led him to his fame today- he wrote and directed “Sixteen Candles” which opened the door of a series of feature films plotting around the mid-class high schoolers’ lives’, the problems and dramas of a teenager.

Hughes branched out away from teen comedies in 1987 with the development of “Planes Trains and Automobiles” starring Steve Martin and John Candy.

John Hughes has been a great inspiration for many in the film industry including Wes Anderson(Rushmore, Bottle Rocket) and Kevin Smith(Clerks)
RIP!

As charming as it sounds, running into a movie set, after a while it is just too much.
So is the Greenpoint, Brooklyn hood the place to be these days?
I had the chance to speak with a few of my neighbors today, to find that their irritation about the abundance of trailers crowding the streets, and cranes blasting light in their house windows, is becoming simply unbearable.

As a film lover myself, I found it quite exciting bumping into a film set, although the ratio of film sets just within my block has cracked some boundaries.

“The thrill is gone. As far as I m concerned, this is a nuisance,”; shopkeeper Larry Moore told The New York Post. “This is of no benefit to anyone around here”

This evening a crazy car chase scene took place starring Bruce Willis and Tracy Morgan in the upcoming film “A couple of Dicks”/ “Cop Out” (title is work in progress) directed by Kevin Smith (Silent Bob from Clerks)

Earlier, just a few blocks away, Jennifer Aniston and Gerard Butler were getting cozy in the film “The Bounty” directed by Andy Tennant ( Fools Rush in, Sweet Home Alabama )
Now this crew was kind enough to show mercy to the respected residents by offering them to sign up as extras for $75/day, however as many of them did, were, of course, played fools- since the crew brought in their own extras! Funny how that goes!

Now Martin Scorcese jumps in this mix as the director of HBO pilot “Boardwalk Empire” starring Steve Buschemi. Although its been said , they mostly have been filming on private property, their trailers are still occupying most of resident’s parking spaces.

And if thats not enough for Greenpoint-ers, lets add on some more shiny bright lights for TV show “Royal Pains” shooting this past weekend. “Date Night” starring Tina Fey and Steve Carrell, director Shawn Levi (Night at the Museum) and Disney’s romance flick “Step up 3-D”

As far as Hollywood goes, if they got the budget to film, they should’ve at least provide their own parking spaces!

Remarkably enough I feel that 2010-Hollywood is preparing for a NYC scenery filled film screens- all within the same block- how purely original?!

What a sad day to remember!
Farrah Fawcett, 62, died today in Los Angeles after battling a long term war with anal cancer.
Her last strength in this battle was the courage to share her every miserable step in her attempt of recovery with the world on NBC’s “Farrah’s Story.”
This all- American beauty celeb is to be remembered as one of the post-feminist Hollywood film stars with a solid 30 years career under her belt.

Amongst all, the one thing every woman can ask for is the Farrah Fawcett’s hair!

I have provided you with a video that can bring you up to date with this classic film star.

And who else could possibly steal Farrah’s thunder but the “King of Pop”, Michael Jackson.

Michael Jackson, 50, died today from a cardiac arrest after being rushed in at the UCLA hospital in Los Angeles.
Of all the wrongs that this man may have done in his life, His music will forever be remembered as the breaking dawn of a new era.
With classic titles such as “Billy Jean” and “Beat it” and his breaking point in his exploding career, the album “Thriller” Michael Jackson, indeed was the King of Pop.

According to Tmz, Michael was last seen in Los Angeles June 9th after entering a car. His massive amount of fans followed the vehicle out onto the street with the question, I paraphrase: Can you still moonwalk?, Michael’s vailed face briefly appeared at the half opened tinted car window in response, I paraphrase: “Why wouldn’t I be able to moonwalk still?!”

If anything, we are left to remember him by is his phenomenal dance moves

Star date- 313582.3180809234

In the recent weeks I ve been letting my inner nerd come out, making remarks to my peers, paralleling minor day to day events to Harry Potter, Star Wars and Star Trek.

Perhaps my need to reveal my Sci-Fi kid is because of the gentleman sitting behind me in the movie theater commenting about Star Trek: “Well, it wasn’t great, but I suppose it was entertaining.” And to this I turned around and flipped him the Vulcan bird saying. “Live long and prosper, punk.” I’m sure he is still bemused.

Admittedly ashamed, I doubted the genius behind the new Star Trek movie. The idea that young actors could take over the roles of the characters we’ve come to know and love for generations was simply stupid. Chris Pine was hilarious in “Bottleshock”, but no Captain Kirk. Little did I know that Star Trek would tie my movie record of 3 sit-ins to Beauty in the Beast in 1991. My mother put up with my fanaticism somehow.
Yes, I have seen Star Trek 3 times, and what can I say? The film is perfect. Thank you Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman for rolling in the Green Women. Star Trek establishes the beginnings of our beloved characters James T. Kirk and Mr. Spock on the USS Enterprise reeling in nuances we Trekkies look out for, but unnecessary for the average movie goers to enjoy. Trust me, Jason adn Justin could care less about the insertion of the green women-they simply enjoyed the nakedness without any past Trekkie history.

Due to the expert writing skills of Orci and Kurtzman the 2 hour long movie keeps you on edge throughout. Thankfully they spice the film with dutiful comedy, action and captivating dialogue. J.J. Abrams is best known for his work on television, writing the new thriller Fringe and directing many episodes of Alias and Lost, but brings to the table a film that is personable for sci-fi and non sci-fi audiences.

“Fascinating”

Thank you, Mr. Spock.

Perhaps I’m in such awe because the movie was cast so well. Karl Urban as Bones, Simon Pegg as Scotty and Anton Yelchin as Chekov created an on-going river of tears and tremendous stomach pain from too much hilarity. I will leave the viewers to raise a voice as to whether or not they found Winona a necessary, age-appropriate, and unbearably awkward choice to play Spock’s mother. Ah, well, I guess you can’t have it all in the end.

At times a little bit of history is a good thing, even if we played hooky from time to time growing up. So, at this moment I would like to step out of the realm of Hollywood and branch out into the world of television.
HBO, otherwise known as Home Box Office, has presented thousands upon thousands of people with the opportunity to comfortably sit on their couches with the divine knowledge that a program of substance will unfold in front of their eyes. After all, HBO has given us “The Sopranos”, “Flight of the Conchords”, “Sex in the City”, “Rome”, “The Wire”, and last night premiered the television movie “Grey Gardens”.

Two days ago I came across a new series. It was bound to be a sensation: after all its not TV:it’s HBO! So without hesitation I began to watch “Alice”, a new series produced by HBO Ole. I don’t speak a word of Spanish, so I read the subtitles, but as the show progressed I noticed a strange thing; why are they speaking Spanish?

Here is the bit of history and fact I discussed previously: Alice, the story’s main character is from Palmas, which is located in the state of Tocantins in the north of Brazil bordering Bahia.

Brazil is the largest country in South America, and unlike all of its neighboring countries, the national language is Portuguese.
Why on earth did HBO bother to encourage the ignorance of North Americans by adding to an unfortunate general assumption that Spanish is the native language of Brazil? The actors in this show are Brazilian, speaking Portuguese. HBO had to go out of their way to hire countless people to dub the Portuguese perfectly, convincing the viewer that each and every Brazilian speaks Spanish. This is inexcusable (not to mention absurdly expensive).

Why, was there a consensus at HBO (pardon me, HBO Ole) that ‘Alice’ would receive less attention by US audiences if they kept the show in Portuguese?

However, the real truth is, Conan is leaving the East Coast, to live in sunny Los Angeles. There, he will be taking over the Tonight’s Show from Jay Leno.
Leno’s last show is scheduled to run May 29th, 2009. Conan’s first Tonight show will air Monday, June 1st, 2009.
So then where is Jay Leno going?- Long tropical vacation in the Caribbean?
Not in this economy, I suppose.
Jay Leno started a contract with NBC to present a new late night talk show called the “Jay Leno Show” expected to debut in the fall of 2009.

After tremendous shuffling amongst hosts and broadcasting companies, these Late Night Gents hopefully will find their place in the correct time of night, once again. And with each of them and their charismatic appeal, we still get to watch our favorite Talk Show, either being the “Late Night” Tonight’s Show”, OR “Late Show”

To Jay Leno, who is branching out on his own just like Letterman did in 1993, and to Conan O’Brien, good luck in LA.
All three talk shows, well, now four… even though so similar and closely knit, have gone through significant rivalry in the ratings and viewers interests in the past decades. Although, all as equally entertaining, they do mark a joyous shared interest.

Producer Laurence Mark(Dreamgirls, I Robot, etc) and writer/director Bill Condon (creator of Dreamgirls) have taken upon themselves to produce this years Oscars, with the goal to present a new and improved Acedemy Award Oscars, and re-establish it as an event worth watching this year.
Of course, as each year, the 81st Academy Award Oscars will be held at the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood, on February 22nd, and it will air live on ABC.

Most of the TV viewers have slipped away from watching the Oscars in the previous years due to the tremendous amount of repetition in its 3 hour ceremonial performance, thus with today’s technology no one really has time to watch a show for 3 hours just to discover the film winners of the previous year.
Why all that trouble when you can log in online and find everything out in just a matter of minutes.

Indeed, being the executive producers of this years Oscars, this is exactly Condon’s and Laurence’s prerogative; To bring back TV viewers, and surprise them with actual 3 hour enjoyment; a party; bringing a unique perspective to the Oscars, rather than the expectancy of repetition from the previous years.
So, they are making a few changes, although sounding impossible, they are willing to give it a go.

Knowing that something new and fresh is cooking behind the minds of these talented filmmakers, does it make you intrigued to announce your Sunday three weeks from today, clutched to your sofa at 8pm?

So, what are these supposed changes that would help raise the TV-viewers population?

First and foremost, Mark and Condon are reshaping the standards of Oscars by cutting out the long opening monologues, the abundance of canned segments, endless movie clips, and the embarrassing interruptions of impassioned speeches.

When it comes to entertaining the masses, it doesn’t really matter what’s on the ballot-Mark says.

Their primary objective is to celebrate the films made in 2008. In other words, Mark and Condon are focusing on the more crucial parts of the Academy in terms of honoring the best movies.

This year’s Awards are blessed with great casting in its films, thus it should not be too difficult to throw the party of a show Mark and Condon have had in mind. This exludes the extravagant decor of exceptionally large Oscar statues all over the stage, indeed Condon aims for the comfort and coziness.

We have enough great material to attract a crowd- Condon affirms.
They did provide us with lots of movie stars-Mark adds.

In order to provide a 3hr long party to attract viewers, Mark and Condon rely on few differences from the other Oscars, such is the secrecy of award/nomination presenters, followed by a hint that presenters are those who participated in a film production within the year 2008. This is not to say that viewers would automatically latch on to their screen for this specific mystery, however.
Further, Condon finds that it is ungracious to mark a long winded winner speech by the flawless orchestra music, thus they will try their best to aid award winners to near their speech to an end in a different manner. Although, the 45 second speech rule still holds.

Winners, please don’t plead Gratitude to your doorman and dogs!

As to all typical Academy traditions, such as the “In memory of… ” section, Mark and Condon, although cannot control their live audience, are going to attempt cutting out applause for the TV, that usually comes off as the “favorite actor that passed, auction.

The best song category this year is dropped down to 3 nominations, thus the excellent signal for bathroom breaks will be shortened by a few.

In the previous years, academy awards were hosted by comedians such as last year’s Jon Stewart, and the previous Ellen Degeneres, however, 81st Oscar show producers feel a bit boisterous about such idea, thus their choice for a host is gonna be Hugh Jackman, our favorite wolverine from the X-Men trilogy.

“He can sing, dance, and looks great in a tuxedo”,-Condon announces. He did an excellent job as the host of the Tony Awards, thus would not be too unfamiliar for him.

Both of the producers believe in trial and error logic, therefore they find that mistakes are good in this case.
They feel that most years the Academy relied on pre-recorded material, so, this time around a bit spontaneity will be encouraged.
Mark and Condon are hyped for this project as first time producers of the Academy. They find that they are bringing new light to this entertaiment and can only hope for the best.
However, the expected no-shows this year are followed by recently passed Heath Ledger, which is to be expected to be a definite win for supporting role in “The Dark Knight”, that has 10 nominations so far.
Clint Eastwood’s nomination of an acting role in the film “Gran Torino”.

And for all else, don’t surprise us by not showing up. Why should we the viewers watch, if you couldn’t make it to ‘your’ career celebration?

Born in February, 1994, in Conyers, Georgia, Dakota Fanning loved to role play and act. She was a natural.
Soon after her parent’s discovery of her acting talents, they moved to Los Angeles.
Fanning’s first gig was a Tide commercial.
She was last seen as Lily Owens in the film “The Secret Life of Bees”. She is 14 years old.
In her latest exhibition, she plays a psychic of sorts, aiding Chris Evans in the attempts to put down an evil company. She does not seem 14years of age but at all.. indeed she has grown.

Suddenly she appears to have grown up. We all get used to our child actors staying children. What happens when they grow up?

Dakota Fanning, whom we dearly remember from the 2001 hit “I am Sam”, starring Sean Penn, suddenly has appeared to not be the innocent sweet little girl we thought she was.
Soon to be 15years of age Miss Fanning has had quite a career under her belt, yet she is barely grown up.
However, images of her acting as an responsible adult, I find hard to fathom, since she is the sweetly remembered girl with her horse in the film “Dreamers”

The puzzling scenario of Hollywood always seems to get me when young actors suddenly grow up.

So what’s so bad about Rourke winning best actor? I mean, he was as good as the film allowed him to be. And the film was quite enjoyable;I am not even a fan of boxing.

Although, he’s clearly not as attractive as some might think Brad or Leo are; But is that a trigger for a best actor-award win?

Rourke has always been the mystery man. As to his precarious lifestyle, like us all, he has battled a few of his own demons, such as the curse of marriage. The second time around, in 1994 he was arrested of spousal abuse. No wonder he has not remarried since!
Well true, he rarely shows in tabloids, and has the reckless reputation, but he deserves this Golden Globe as well.
Congrats to you Mickey Rourke.

John Joseph Travolta a well known actor, who won over his audience in the all time classics Staying Alive(1983) and Saturday Night Fever(1977) has had quite a difficult first week of the New Year.
His son Jett, born April 1992, was known to have regular seizures in his early childhood due to a rare disease called the Kawasaki Syndrome-an inflammation of the middle sized arteries and blood vessels that affects organs including the heart.
Upon their vacation in the Bahamas over the holidays, the Travolta family endured a sad travesty of the loss of their son on Friday, January 2nd, 2009.
Jett’s death was caused by a seizure. It was concluded after a post mortem examination, just hours after his death.
The Travolta family returned to their Florida home today with an urn containing their 16yr old son’s ashes.
Due to media dodging the Travolta family Hoaxed a funeral with an empty coffin that was transported from the Bahamas on a separate flight, thus their son’s cremation was a secret.

An unconfirmed report of the show business website TMZ.com claimed yesterday that Jett still had a faint pulse when he was discovered lying in the toilet area of the bathroom, with the door closed. There was “a considerable amount of blood after the resuscitation efforts,” it claimed.

-BBC News

Travolta, 54 and his wife Preston, 46 are firm believers in the Church of Scientology. Therefore, they believe their son did not die, but simply moved on to a new life. They will be holding a memorial service later on this week.

The Church of Scientology does not believe in funerals, only memorial services. While, the Church does not believe in drug treatments for psychological diagnosis, it does not oppose to the use of drugs for medical conditions.
Jet was diagnosed with the Kawasaki Syndrome at the age of 2. With adequate treatment the mortality rate of this disease is less than 0.01%.
With the consultation of several neurosurgeons, Jett’s parents have taken him off drug treatments after several years.

What a sad travesty for the Travolta family and a terrible way to start the New Year.
Our condolences to your loss!

To all you film lovers, here is what you can expect  during the Holidays;
Just in Case you find yourself shuffling through old family albums again, eating Christmas Dinner left overs or have a slight hangover, check out the flicks coming out on Christmas Day!
First off, start with the romantic comedy “Marley and Me”. A puppy love wraps the hearts of Owen Wilson and Jennifer Anniston. Or better yet, if your company is child friendly, indulge in Adam Sandler’s fantasy trivia “BedTime Stories”
Also, the man who gets younger each day is really, Brad Pitt, in the “Curious Case of The Benjamins”

And for the harsh critics indulge in what is already out. Films that tend to follow a repetitive thread and recycled stories. These are pleasant though, especially during the holidays in this economic crisis.

From the director of “Bring it On”(2000) “Down with Love” (2003) and “The Break Up” (2006), Peyton Reed symbolically paves the path to the “Yes Man” a Jim Carey attraction, which currently is winning this weeks box office top hit with weekend gross of 18.3mil. What is it about this film that draws attention?
Is it the fact that Jim Carey is back on the big screen? Or Americans are in search of some positively fueled holiday thrills in times of economic recession?
Clearly, this film is not of such unfamiliarity or excitement for that matter. We’ve seen it. It’s plot is repetitive and very “Jim Carey” cliche.
But it has enthusiasm. It has that drive that instills hope in people. I suppose in times like these America needs hope. Hope for a richer, saver, better tomorrow. So, in these poor hours of economic mourning, some of us indulge with “Yes Man” and I only hope their faces glisten brighter as they walk out of those theater doors.
As for the second choice of our theater goers, Gabrielle Muccino comes back to the big screen with the film “Seven Pounds” and its main man Will Smith.
Muccino spread his rep amongst the general population with his 2006 hit “The Pursuit of Happyness”, a touchy, passionate story of a man, his son and a life-changing endeavor. “Seven Pounds” presses with similar emotions, yet the storyline is not one to be given away.
Opening Christmas week is a political take of the film industry, to keep up with this holiday spirit by introducing a few history lessons. One is of a former US president Richard Nixon “Frost/Nixon” directed by Oscar winner Ron Howard. The following choice coming out is the story of the men who led the operation to assassinate Hitler, “Vulkrie” starring Tom Cruise. Also, a story about a man who tries to regain his memory, lost after the 1982 invasion of Lebanon. “The Waltz of Bashir” is a 3-D Flash animated creation of Israeli Writer/Director Ari Folman. All of this does not simply just say “Enjoy your holidays” with this rendition of history slightly repeating itself!” I wouldn’t know
Dont Worry, for those of you not so politically and history inclined, you can enjoy Sam Mendes(American Beauty) “Revolutionary Road” starring, our TiTanic heroes, Leonarado Di Caprio and Kate Winslet. and “The Spirits”, written and directed by Frank Miller, the man behind “Sin City”.
And thats not all…

Happy Holidays,
Let us know what you thought of your theatrical expanses!

1950’s Pin-Up Girl Queen, Bettie Moe Page died Thursday evening 12/11/08 at the hospital in Los Angeles. She had suffered a heart attack a week prior, where she never regained consciousness. She was 85 years old.
Bettie Page was the most photographed woman in the world.

Born on April 22nd, 1923 in Nashville, “Bettie Page embodied the stereotypical wholesomeness of the Fifties and the hidden sexuality straining beneath the surface,” authors Karen Essex and James L. Swanson wrote in their 1996 book “Bettie Page: The Life of a Pin-Up Legend.”

She was one of 6 children in her family. Page and her 2 sisters were sent to an orphanage, after her father was arrested for having sexually molested her. She was only 13 years old.

Page completed an arts degree from the Peabody College in Nashville and moved to San Francisco in the 1940’s with her first husband, where she did her first modeling.
In 1947 Page moved to New York, after divorcing her husband, to further pursue her modeling.
Amongst the many, photographer Bunny Yeager crossed her path and months later her photos were all over Playboy, a magazine founded by Hugh Hefner just 2 years prior this event. She was one of the first women to ever appear in Playboy Magazine.
This notorious photo was of Page winking at the camera wearing nothing but a Santa hat and decorating a Christmas Tree. Hefner described it as “a milestone in the history of the magazine”. Later on she has discovered that Yeager made a fortune from the shoot, without ever compensating her.

Looking back on her career, she told Playboy in 1998:

“I never thought it was shameful. I felt normal. It’s just that it was much better than pounding a typewriter eight hours a day, which gets monotonous.”

Beginning 1970’s Page paused on her modeling career, in attempt to defeat acute schizophrenia.
In 1991 the film ” The Rocketeer” directed by Joe Johnston regained her fame. The film was based on the comic book where Bettie Page was the hero’s girlfriend. She made a living off of this by signing memorabilia at conventions.
Bettie Moe Page is the embodiment of beauty. With her free spirit and open sensuality she has paved the way for the sexual revolution of the 1960’s.

“I think that she was a remarkable lady, an iconic figure in pop culture who influenced sexuality, taste in fashion, someone who had a tremendous impact on our society,” said Hugh Hefner.

A teenage girl moves in with her dad in the small town of Forks, Washington to only discover that Vampires exist, and she is head-smack-dab in Love with one of them, Mr. Edward Cullen.
I mean, come on, what’s not to like here. A romantic action filled babble about vampires.

I have to admit, the film does not bring justice to the book, but at all.

However, surely exciting this incredible fiction story written by Stephanie Meyer has moved many readers, thus their excitement stems from their passion and personal imagination as book fans. The screen just provides the visuals, and many were so enthralled with the exhibition, they left out the cinematics to the harsh critics.

And only those who have read the book, I feel, would find the film satisfying to a degree. However, for the rest of you, you are the harsh critic. Without the background pages one could feel left out or suddenly stuck with two hours of a sap and an absolute confusion.

However, the logistics follow that, this film, TWILIGHT, directed by Catherine Hardwicke (Nativity Story, Lords of Dogtown) had a very low budget for creating half of the population’s imagination on the big screen. Only 48 days of production and a staff of late teens and young twenty year olds in the rainy small town of Forks, this film successfully topped off at the box office so far with a total gross of $ 138.4mil. So given all that, the attempt for the film was successful, and I could only hope that the sequel be better, just because “low budgeting” would not be an issue anymore.

Now for the young romancers Robert Pattinson(Edward) and Kristen Stewart(Bella Swan) the hype is up. It is like the thrilling “Notebook”(2004) once again. Although, Rachel McAdams and Ryan Gosling might have found their happily ever after. But these two youngsters are just air for the media, and if all the rumors are true, we can only hope their passion will show in the sequel “New Moon”.

Nothing has been revealed yet, regarding the creation of sequels, however, with all of the publicity this film has gotten so far, no doubt, the producers are forming their entourage as well as booking a trip back to Forks, Washington.

If you haven’t seen it, find out for yourself what the Hype is all about … After you read the book!!

A good actor never makes 2 great movies one after another

What a statement, I thought, so I took it upon myself to prove it wrong.

First of all, let me fill you in. The whole argument started based upon upcoming films with good actors. You have a favorite actor for a reason, so you expect that their films are going to be good, but the off chances are, that the film is going to be a tragic disappointment. In which case the above statement followed.

It is hard for them actors to say no to an offer since they get so worked up especially after a tremendous film that they have made. At first glance this statement didn’t take me by surprise as for I almost believed that this is true. However, there are many amazing stars out there and they have kept their title by making great films repeatedly.
A great example comes to mind, Robert DeNiro. This guy everyone knows this guy, either from the classic GoodFellas or Casino or even some of his recent catch Meet the Parents1 and 2.
So far in my film career I have not met a person that dislikes Robert DeNiro. If you do I would like you to elaborate Why ?
So, lets see, After the Great Expectations in 1998, DeNiro, followed with Ronin and a comedy in 1999 Analyze this Also, Men of Honor followed by Meet the Parents in 2008. That is three great films one after another and a mix genre.

What DeNiro has in his film career is a pattern of film Genres. He likes to mix it up. After making a serious film, he throws in a successful comedy.
His newest film in theatres now Righteous Kill starrs Al Pacino, is a suspense thriller cop flick, which ratings are climbing. His next film coming up in theatres is What Just Happened a comedy about an unlucky married man.
Than again, DeNiro’s film career centered around amazing film directors such as Martin Scorsese, Francis Ford Copolla and some of his own direction such as A Bronx Tale and The Good Shephard
And if that isn’t enough to break the statement above, I will dig out another classic face from the big screen.

Lets look at Leonardo DiCaprio. DiCaprio has successfully spun a few heads around a couple of times with his recent career moves. His glory of recognition on the big screen happened with the classic What’s Eating Gilbert Grape starring Johnny Depp in 1993.

Few years later he filled tears in the eyes of many women during Titanic in 1997, followed by The Man in the Iron Mask, where he played double character.

After Danny Boyle’s The Beach in 2000, DiCaprio disappeared from the big screen for couple of years, which seemed to give him excellent rest for a full thrust into Scorsese’s Gangs of New York in 2002 followed by Spielberg’s epic story Catch me if you Can then back to Scorsese’s Aviator in 2004, and The Departed 2006.
Now this man seems to know what he is doing, and he is hitting it hard!

Bernie Mac, best known for his Bernie Mac Show which ran from 2001-2006 was an American actor, and comedian. He always carried a smile on his face, and a positive attitude.

Born on October 5th,1957, Bernard Jeffrey McCullough, has had some serious health issues in the past year. On August 9th, 2008, at age 50 Bernie Mac dies from further complications of pneumonia.

Raised in the South side of Chicago, Bernie Mac gained his popularity through stand-up comedy, joining Steve Harvey, Cedric the Entertainer and D.L Hughley as the Original Kings of Comedy.

His brief appearance as a host of the HBO show Midnight Mac, pushed him even closer to the big screen. His most notable role was of Frank Catton in the 1950’s remake of Ocean’s Eleven, followed its two sequels.

Other well respected roles he has been seen are in the films Bad Santa, Mr.3000, as the new Bosley in the Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle, and as the car salesman in Transformers.

In 1977 he married Rhonda McCullough, with whom he had one daughter Je’Niece, born in 1978.

Bernie Mac has suffered from sarcoidosis, an inflammatory lung disease that produces tiny lumps in the cells of the body organs. He had said this condition has gone in remission in 2005.

Due to an infection, Mac was hospitalized on July 24th, 2008 at a Chicago clinic. Later on it turned out to be pneumonia. According to his publicist Danica Smith, he was in a critical condition, and few days later he had died due to complications of pneumonia, unrelated to sarcoidosis.

At the time of his death, Bernie Mac was working on a few film and TV projects. “Starting Under” and “Welcome to the Family” are TV series in post production. Old Dogs is a film expected to be released 2009 where Mac plays a main role. “Soul Men” is a film expected to be released mid November, where Mac was working with Issac Hayes, who coincidentally passed away from a stroke in his home in Memphis, Tennessee day after Mac.

Throughout his acting career Bernie Mac has been showered with Emmy and Golden Globe nominations and awards.

He has been an excellent and well respected actor and comedian in the Hollywood world.

Occupied with the roll of a full time mommy of six in their French Riviera Chateau, is Angelina giving up the screen for a while?

Of course not. Her newest Film “Changeling” directed by Clint Eastwood, is coming out late October. She has already dipped her fingers in Randall Wallace’s announced film-to make, “The Mercenary: Love and Honor”- a story about the Russian empress Catherine and her reign during the American revolutionary war.

Another prospect is rumored to be in production is the “Atlas Shrugged”- based on the 1957 novel by Ayn Rand; a story about a railroad executive and her life struggles.

As far as the father side of this Hollywood celebrity family goes, Mr. Pitt has his hands full as well. Coming to theaters in September of this year from the academy award winners the Coen Brothers starrs the dark-spy comedy “Burn after Reading”. This luscious cast including George Clooney, Frances McDoormand, John Malkovich, JK Simmons and more is sure to provide hours of entertainment filled with action and laughter.

Even so, this is not all that Pitt has been working on.

“The Curious Case of Benjamin Button”, is expected to arrive on the big screen for Christmas.

Directed by David Fincher (Zodiac. Fight Club), this film is drama/fantasy, about a man Benjamin Button, who starts aging backwards with bizarre consequences. Co-starring with Brad Pitt is Cate Blanchett.

And if that is not all…

Pitt has a full repertoire in the oven. Coming out in the early 2009, is the Terrrance Mallick’s (Thin Red Line) “Tree of Life” including Sean Penn and Fiona Shaw.

In pre-production Pitt is juggling Quentin Tarantino’s “Inglorious Bastards”, and “The Fighter” expected viewing date is late 2009. And more to come … all the way to 2010.

As the savvy man he is, Pitt has rolled up his sleeves and like any other father is ready to provide for his quite large of a family.

Will the kids be able to hang out on set with daddy?

Pixar, once again Joins forces with Disney, and out do themselves with this excellent Robot Love Story that saves planet Earth. Already nominated for the 2008 Oscars, Walle is climbing the charts for a winning number.

Writer/Director Andrew Stanton, provides you with a whole 97minutes length of almost no dialog at all.

The story is captivating, followed by the romance of two robots. The protagonist, Wall-e, is simply irresistible and quite enjoyable from the very start. The underlying theme of the film follows the human destruction of planet Earth. However, the humanized humble robot Wall-e saves Planet Earth by following his heart/hardrive, and chasing Eve-a fancy sophistication of a flying robot.

The Australian actor, age 28 Heath Ledger, was found dead this morning in his Manhattan apartment, New York, naked in his bed with a bottle of sleeping pills next to him, police said.

Born on April 4th, 1979 in Perth, Western Australia, Heath Ledger was an amazing actor part of many best picture films. One of his latest appearences on screen was in the film “Im not There”, as he played a figment of Bob Dylan’s life.

It wasn’t immediately clear if Ledger had committed suicide. He had an appointment for a massage at a residence in the tony neighbourhood of SoHo, NYPD spokesman Paul Browne said. A housekeeper who went to let him know the massage therapist had arrived found him dead at 3:26 p.m. The medical examiner’s office planned an autopsy Wednesday, spokeswoman Ellen Borakove said.- variety.com

For all of you film lovers… when it comes down to judgment day for the real judger’s of movies, this year, it appears as though, we are going to be experiencing a shortage in the pleasure of a show for best films, directors, crew and actors from 2007. I am sure you are aware by now of the continuing Writers’ strike in Hollywood, and it looks like they might be making a great point. Hollywood cannot survive without them, as it is a crucial part of running a show down there. Golden Globes has been cancelled due to the strike, obviously you already know , since it was suppose to air yesterday.

Do you think is safe to say that we could still be looking forward to the Oscars of ‘08?

hmmmm…..

So what happened last Sunday?

For Golden Globe vets, the short evening was dreamlike, both familiar and unfamiliar. As usual, it took place in the hotel’s International Ballroom, with the usual pre-event shmoozing. But there was no red carpet, no screaming crowds (just a handful of well-behaved gawkers) and no limo gridlock in the hotel’s driveway. And, crucially, there were no stars. -Variety.com

It sounds to me, as tho Hollywood is nearing for a plunge. So goes, our further interests to desire to step out of our own realities and watch a movie. What happens when there is no movies to watch, or our favorite TV shows be constantly canceled?

I BEG OF YOU WRITERS! GET BACK TO YOUR JOBS! WE GET IT! We are helpless without you:)

There, I said it.

And, besides, this strike is not only affecting the regular Joe and Mary, TV viewers, but rather is leaving other film crew peeps without a job!

“We’re not choosing sides. We just want the public to know that we’re the ones who are affected by this strike,” said Karen Kovacic, a nurse and Local 767 member. “We’re the crew people who operate the cameras, we do the hair and makeup, we are the nurses on set. And we’re sitting around not working. It was a really rough Christmas at my house.”

To Hollywood; Any future plans in adjusting the sails of this boat or what?

And… the winners of the Golden Globes this year, would look something like this, if they were on, of course!

For all of you wondering folk, of why your favorite TV Show has been discontinued, here is an idea.

Starting in late October, writers marched down the streets of Hollywood with demands for more money, of course, for their hard working days to make you, the regular TV viewer, consequently satisfied.

It is nearing toward the end of December now, and Writers are still on strike.

Last time this happened in 1988, the strike cost the film industry about $500 million.

With the present pace of the strike, the economical loss of the industry grows to about $20 million a day, and somehow, no one is doing anything to prevent this Hollywood crisis.

For your further interest in this mess in Los Angeles, I have researched a few articles that you might want to look at.

Drifting into the Christmas spirit, are you? This year the box office seems to have an overflow of Holiday movies out. And if that isn’t enough few of them are still filming.

Even actors are not satisfied in just being in one holiday movie per year I guess.

Stuck at the San Francisco Airport, on stand by for Los Angeles, the other day, I came across the filming of “Four Christmases”, a film by Seth Gordon starring Vince Vaughn And Reese Witherspoon in the holiday comedy of a married couple with divorced parents, paying their respectable family visits during the Christmas holidays.

Vince Vaughn must be a fan of this season having to be “Fred Clause”, Santa’s sloppy brother, and now the husband of Reese Witherspoon.

The expected premiere of this film comes close to the end of this month, if of course, all goes as planned.

The supposed supporting roles for this film are: Robert Duvall, Kathy Bates, Glenn Close and Stephanie Venditto.

Well, for all of you Vince Vaughn lovers out there: Look forward for another couple of hours of holiday spirit laughs with this rather talkative comedic actor.

directed by: Seth Gordon

screenplay by: Matt Allen, Caleb Wilson

executive producer: Derek Evans, Guy Riedel

distributer: Sony Pictures

So I checked out this film the other day, merely to see what was all the fuss about. And of course I was disappointed. New Line Cinema and director Chris Weitz present this film with a splash of magical fairy-like tale, thrown into a line of action and mystery, however, truly this film is trying too hard to accomplish the grandiose attitude of Harry Potter, and adventure filled labyrinth of Lord of the Rings, as well as borrowed visuals and talking animals from The Chronicles of Narnia trilogies. Cute plot; an orphan girl lives in a parallel world, where one’s soul takes the shape of an animal. She is the chosen one, the one who can read the Golden Compass, fancy clockwork that reveals the truth. This Fantastical tale based on the novel by Philip Pullman, managed to skyrocket the box office at its release with first place of $26million. And I must agree, the amount of advertisements this film got, no wonder people will go see it…
It is a remarkable idea, to base fantasy tales from trilogies of books, however make sure to entice the viewer with character development or at least a bit of a plot expansion, just to clearly understand what is going on in there. For me, the ending was just too raw, and did not immerse me in the hopes for the upcoming sequel. I did not find it intriguing enough, to seek out continuation or encore for that matter. The storyline was not powerful or better yet, was not catchy. And character flaw, separated the viewer from its heroes or enemies. As the villain of the film, we got Nicole Kidman as Marisa Coulter, devilishly smiley resemblance of Darth Vadar, decked out in gold. Coulter peruses her way through the heart of Lyra Belacqua (Dakota Blue Richards) in order to reach for the Golden Compass. But of course fails, since the villain never wins in tales like these. Then we have Daniel Craig as Azriel, a man/teacher that appears at the very beginning of the movie and seems to hold higher importance to the plot, however disappears throughout and his character never quite develops further on. What saves you from stepping out of the theatre is a spunky white polar bear, Iorek Byrnison (voice of Ian McKellen). A warrior, and a drunk, Iorek is the most developed character as it’s the simplest. Drastic close ups of wildering roars overtake the scene as the bear fights, and that is probably the highlight worth seeing in this film.

You know what music is? Harmonic connection between all living beings.- The Wizard, August Rush.

Ok, I know what you’re thinking.. Another chick flick love story, sappy drama… a tear jerker. This is a film that seems to be a waste of time to spend the few bucks to see. Especially, if you judge your movie selections from rottentomatoes.com. Its reviews seem to be horrible. But here is a good review, from a different point of view.
Brief synopsis: In Brooklyn, NY, guy meets girl, they get it on, next day they are separated. This film uses an old technique such as parallel story lines that are bound to cross together. Within the storylines, we meet the guy, an Englishman, a musician in a rock band, and we meet the girl, comes from a rich sophisticated family, plays the viola, musician as well. Then we meet the kid, an orphan, bound to one day meet his parents. Yes, it is boring, ordinary love story Oliver Twist-like, fairytale presentation of a drama. However, what saves this film, is the idea behind music, melody and rhythm. It is touchy; it is powerful and all together synchronized in a soft balance between excellent editing, cinematography and melody.
Now if you saw “Ray”, the story about Ray Charles. His music, his confidence made you believe in him, A blind man that found solace in music, and made it his life, it was powerful, it was brilliant.
This story is about a kid who is driven by everything that he hears. Who finds harmony and peace in everyday sounds, such as footsteps and cars, leafs dropping on the ground, and basketball shoots. In order to respect this film, one must have an appreciation for music.

Flawed, yet, does what I, as a musician, find difficult to do. It conveys in words and pictures that wonderful feeling of being caught in a much grander current of rhythm and melody. = quoted from Rottentomatoes.Com

I think the world today has forgotten, what it really means to listen. Our eardrums have been drowned in everyday bullshit of wars, laws, money, politics and their backstabbing, cunning existence, that has made us deaf.
August Rush is a movie that shows music veering through the only innocence that still dwells within our worlds, a child with an uncorrupt soul, and damn strong heart for the passion of music. This child represents a prodigy, a musical genius such as Mozart. His bravery and desire to show to the world what he hears gets him to what he ultimately wants in this film, to reunite with his family, but in the greater design of schemes, is to remind us to step away from our desperate dullness from the corrupt world we live in and just listen.

The music is all around us, all you have to do is listen… -Evan Taylor, August Rush.

To the filmmakers of this film, Mark Mencina, (original music), John Mathieson (cinematography), and William Steinkamp (editing), I appreciate the high dosage of music infusion between classical and rock, modern rock and modern symphonic music, excellently presented with strong close-ups drastic cuts and all together dancing frames. Such fine blend makes this film be worth seeing, and worth a while.
Directed by, Kirsten Sheridan, and starring Keri Russell(Felicity, TVShow, 1998) as Lyla Novachek , Jonathan Rhys Meyers as Luis Conelly, Evan Taylor-August Rush played by Freddie HighMoore, and Robin Williams as Maxwell “Wizard” Wallace.

A curious question, to understand the power of the subconscious better, could be the idea of complete conscious during surgery, under a high dosage of anesthesia. A body fully paralyzed, yet a mind fully functioning and aware, as if awake.
The film, Awake attempts to answer the possibilities to this question in a series of events with a plain plot that triggers simply a further confusion behind this puzzling idea. If a subconscious state that’s so strong can enter one’s consciousness and awareness during a state of complete paralysis, is one capable to feel?
Is it true that one in 700 people going under anesthesia during surgery, is actually awake!? Such state is called anesthetic awareness.
A british man named Joby Harlold, not recognized in the film industry, writes and directs this story of a very successful man in Manhattan NY, who has a weak heart and gets into a heart transplant surgery. However, he learns that such surgery sometimes is not meant to take place in a way that he ends up experiencing it.
Starring Jessica Alba(as Sam in the film), the object of desire, and probably the hope and entertainment in the film, who tries to seduce Hayden Christiansen (Clay) in order to get full access to his money, by conducting an experiment through a surgery that goes wrong.
Awake, keeps you entertained and questioning throughout the end, however, its resolution is easily predicted.
It is a good idea in theory, but poorly presented in this film.
“Redacted” is a film, written and directed by Brian de Palma, the man who created “Casualties of War”(1989) and of course the more memorable “Femme Fetale” (2002),”The Black Dahlia” (2006), “Carlito’s Way” (1993) and the classic of films, “Scarface”(1983), and many more favorites along the way.

This film is based on true events, invigorating a truth that perhaps fellow Americans are blinded to see. Just by its title definition “to redact-meaning to prepare for publishing or revise the truth; to frame”, De Palma discusses the backbone of what is going on behind the curtains of our government and the actuality of a war in Iraq, as the dirty hands of our oh so present president Bush. Is it simply his strange frustration of failing to accomplish his true goal in the Vietnam film he made in ‘89 “Causalties of War”, that “Redacted” is ready to expose a history that would mark the waking of fellow Americans? Or, his goal will be once again demolished over the simple fact, that one is bound to repeat history’s mistakes?

J.J Abrams, the executive producer of the familiar TV show “Lost” and “Six Degrees”, is bringing us a film supposedly titled “Cloverfield” in the beginning of 2008.
So far the production of this film has been held in secret, thus, not even a title has been revealed for this film. Right now the film is in post production, and its title is a subject to change.

I read some info about this project that JJ Abrams has been tackling, and it really sounded like a box of horse shit, until I saw the trailer.
Now, the trailer is not too appealing if you are looking for a Hollywood blow out film, rather, it is subtle and releases barely any information for this screening. Which makes this all too questionable.
Some of the research I’ve done suggests that this film is not far away of being another giant monster movie coming out of Hollywood. And what makes this different than any other giant monster movie? To my understanding this film is being shot using home video cameras to portray a point of view of real people experiencing an attack over New York.

It’s designed as a fairly small picture, all things considered, and right now, they’re working to make sure the script is going to deliver some wild thrills (like an earthquake that levels Manhattan or an oil tanker flipping over by the Statue of Liberty), but that it’s not suddenly going to turn into a giant $150 million movie. It’s a tricky balance, and if they pull off everything they’re trying to do, CLOVERFIELD could be something really groovy. Not a man in suit in sight. –from an article at aintitcool.com
