Into the Wild

Based on a true story and a book written by Jon Krakauer, Into The Wild, is an epic tale of a young man named Christopher McCandless (Emile Hirsch,) who takes off on an adventure right after his college graduation. Inspired by the words of great writers such as Jack London, Tolstoy and Kerouac, this man takes on a journey of a lifetime, determined to find true happiness, while living into the wild of Alaska.
Sean Penn has read the book Into the Wild by Jon Krakauer, about ten years ago, when he first thought about the idea of visualizing this story. Finally it is on screen and it is alive once again, directed by Sean Penn.
It is the adventure of self search as well as discoveries of life’s secrets. Christofer McCandless, once on the road, destroys every evidence of his social identity, by burning his identification and his money. Free from societal leashes he starts his travels, with his ultimate goal, Alaska. On the road, he meets strangers that mostly play the roll of his guidance. These people become more to him than his own family, and not even in a single moment he changes his mind. But continues and explores the back bones of America for a total of two years.
The film took about eight months to shoot. Sean Penn shot this man’s adventure in a documentary-drama, so every scene is heavy and long. But as the viewer, one really becomes part of the movie, as if on the road as well.
Brilliantly made, Into The Wild definetly captures life and what it means to live it fully. It is one long amazing funny and sad epiphany that I believe everyone should experience, either on their own or through this film.
Nominated for 2 Golden Globes, this film is worth everyone’s precious time.
Supporting Roles Played by Marcia Gay Harden(Billie McCandless), William Hurt( Walt McCandless), Jena Malone(Christopher’s sister), Cathrine Keener, Vince Vaughn, and Brian Dierker.
