Should we even call 1408 a horror?

The horror movies now are made to wow the audience with unnecessary blood splatter and senseless slasher deaths in an undeveloped script and no character development. Most of the horror movies now aren’t scary anymore. They are just made to show a slasher killing people every few minutes to the point where we the audience can predict who will be killed next. I am proud to say 1408 is different.
This movie will scare you but in a natural way like the classic Friday the 13th and not like the over-the-top predictable movies like Saw.
1408 provides an attention grabbing story to keep the audience guessing. Its based on the Stephen King short story, which I have read, and must say it never strays away from the original ideas of Mr. King who recommends the movie. It has been a long time since I’ve seen a horror movie where it got my heart racing to the point where i had to look away for a second.
John Cusack plays Mike Enslin, a writer who visits supposed haunted sights to dethrone them of their reputation. He discovers room 1408 in the Dolphin Hotel which has a high death rate and chooses this site as a good ending chapter for the book he’s writing. John Cusack is an amazing actor who never strays away from his character. Samuel L. Jackson has made a rebound from Snakes On A Plane to play the manager of the Dolphin Hotel who tries to persuade Cusack’s character to not enter 1408.
I will admit that when I went to see 1408, I thought we would discover the mystery of the room and why the haunting occurs. The movie’s focus is about the character Mike Enslin and his experience in the room. I give this move a 9 out of 10 for its classic horror feel and staying true to the writing of world famous Stephen King.
